Medical removal of pigmented skin lesions
Medical skin treatments
We remove all types of spots – cancerous and benign
At GVSL, we offer comprehensive full body and localised skin checks by expert doctors who can diagnose the skin lesion you are concerned about. This step is essential before any brown spot or mole is treated. Once diagnosed, your doctor will discuss the best approach for mole removal in Geelong, which may include:
- Complete excision with stitches
- Shave excision
- Laser removal
- Scripts for medicated fading creams

The process
Before any brown spot, benign skin lesion or mole removal can take place, you first need a medical diagnosis with one of our doctors or your own GP or skin cancer doctor. You can book a skin check appointment for this.
Once diagnosed if the brown lesion is flat and non cancerous you can book with one of our dermal clinicians for laser removal.
If the lesion is suspicious our doctors will excise the whole lesion and send the sample to pathology, then manage your follow up.
If the brown lesion is elevated/lumpy and benign (non cancerous) then book with our doctors to have it removed by shave or punch excision, or in some cases laser.
What type of brown lesions can be treated?
Moles, seborrhoeic keratoses, pigmented skin tags, freckles, naevi, melasma, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, pigmented scars, solar lentigos, birthmarks, pigmented BCCs, melanomas, dysplastic naevi.
Preparing for your appointment
Before your skin lesion or mole removal appointment, it’s important to properly prepare your skin to ensure the best results. If a laser treatment is indicated then refrain from tanning / sunburn / fake tan for 2 weeks prior to the appointment.
Post-treatment guidelines
Your doctor or dermal clinician will give you specific post care information.
Our doctors will choose the method that leaves the least mark, but if any skin lesion is surgically removed it may leave some kind of scar. Brown flat lesions that can be treated with laser can often be removed without any scarring.
Yes. At GVSL our mole removal treatment plans are tailored to your individual needs, whether you require the removal of a single mole or several skin lesions in one session.
Sometimes this is possible but the lesion needs to be examined and diagnosed first, only after this assessment can we provide an appropriate treatment plan and advice on whether we can proceed on the day.
