What is a laser?
Laser stands for “Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation”. Put simply a laser is a very strong beam of light at a single wavelength. Different wavelengths have a different target.
Different laser wavelengths selectively target red blood, blue deoxygenated blood, brown pigment, different colours of tattoo pigment, or water. Thus a laser of the correct wavelength and settings can selectively destroy a target lesion without too much effect on surrounding normal tissue.
What types of conditions can be treated with laser?
- Pigmentation conditions (melasma, freckles, sun damage spots, seborrhoeic keratoses, uneven skin tone, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation)
- Vascular conditions (angiomas, broken capillaries, red spots, facial redness, rosacea, red birthmarks, red scars)
- Surgical scars, acne scars, self harm scars, cesarean scars, breast surgery scars, stretchmarks
- Vaginal atrophy / dryness, vaginal laxity, recurrent vaginal infections, stress urinary incontinence
- Unwanted tattoos
- Unwanted body hair
- Facial hair due to PCOS, menopause, hormonal changes, gender reassignment
- Fungal nail infections
