XPL (Expert Pulse Light) Treatment
Dermal therapy treatments
XPL treatment for pigmentation, redness, sun damage, acne & skin rejuvenation
BBL or Broad Band Light is one of our most popular dermal treatments at GVSL. BBL is an intense pulsed light treatment that enhances and brightens your complexion, reducing the appearance of freckles, age spots, brown pigmentation, broken capillaries, facial redness and rosacea, as well as signs of ageing.
If you’re unsure whether BBL is right for you, our dermal clinicians can advise after a skin analysis.

What is BBL?
BBL (Broad Band Light) is a form of light-based photorejuvenation that has traditionally been used to improve pigmentation, redness, vascular changes and signs of ageing.
At Geelong Veins Skin & Laser, XPL is now our current light-based treatment, replacing BBL. XPL is delivered using the Stellar M22 platform and can be customised to target different skin concerns.
XPL uses targeted light energy to improve the appearance of pigmentation and vascular changes within the skin, helping to create a brighter, clearer and more even complexion.
Who is XPL for?
We get such great results with BBL and XPL that it can be suitable for a wide range of skin concerns and treatment goals.
In particular, it is beneficial for:
• Fine facial redness, blotches and facial capillaries
• Uneven skin tone and flat brown pigmented patches
• Freckles, age spots and sun damage
• Fine lines and signs of ageing
• Rosacea
• Acne and inflammation
Preparing for your appointment
- No sunburn or tanning or fake tan for 2 weeks prior
- No injectable treatments or peels for 2 weeks prior
Your dermal clinician may put you on a specific skincare regime to prepare your skin for 4 weeks prior, particularly if you are prone to pigmentation/melasma.
Post-treatment guidelines
- Avoid sun exposure by covering up or using sunscreen for 48 hours post treatment.
- Avoid stronger skin products like vitamin A serums for 1 week – your dermal clinician will review your skincare plan for you.
Some medications and treatments can make the skin more sensitive to light and may mean XPL is not suitable. Photosensitising medications can be a contraindication, including medications such as oral isotretinoin, doxycycline, minocycline and methotrexate.
If you’re taking medication or are unsure whether XPL is suitable for you, our onsite doctors and dermal clinicians can provide advice.
