Are you looking for a non-drug headache treatment or strategy that you can add to your treatment plan for frequent headaches? Geelong based interventional radiologist Dr Amit Lakkaraju can assess headache causes and treat cervicogenic headaches with laser.
What types of headaches can be treated?
The more common types of headaches are commonly treated. These include:
- Cluster headaches
- Migraine
- Cervicogenic headaches (headaches from the neck and spine)
- Trigeminal neuralgia
- Craniofacial headaches (around the face and head)
What type of therapies are used?
Non-drug treatment of headaches uses a number of therapies in conjunction with each other in a similar way mechanics use multiple tools to fix a car. These include:
- Non-invasive Laser/Cold laser/Pain laser/Low Level Laser therapy
- Botulinum toxin
- Trigger point injections
- Nerve block injections
- Radiofrequency ablation
How long do the treatments last?
It depends which treatment or combination of treatments is matched to your symptoms. Some treatments have long lasting results, and others such as botulinum toxin injections will need to be repeated every 3-6 months.
How many sessions are required for a low level laser?
Depending on assessment, treatment using laser involves between 6 to 12 sessions. Laser for headaches needs to be performed in conjunction with other treatments sometimes or can be performed on its own.
How long does laser treatment for headaches last?
Laser treatment for headaches can last up to 6-12 months but you may need maintenance sessions. Laser combined with Bot tox may improve the longevity of the laser treatment itself. Botulinum toxin, laser and nerve blocks can be useful in returning you back to normal functioning or significantly reducing your periods of headaches.
