What can we achieve with dermal fillers in the lip area?

Dermal fillers can be used to replace volume or change the shape of your lips, from subtle changes to recreating a completely new and fuller lip design.

We create lips in just about every shape and size there is and achieving the balance between science and art is what we do every day to give you the lips you love.

“I used to have nice lips and I wore lipstick, but now they are disappearing and lipstick just bleeds into my lines”.

As we age we lose the natural fullness in our lips and I often hear clients wondering where their lips have gone. Fortunately it is easily corrected with dermal fillers and we can replace lost lip volume and hydration to rejuvenate the lips and give your lips their natural shape back.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are made from a gel like material that mimics the body’s natural hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is vital in the human body to bind water to our cells, so it makes sense that this product also deeply hydrates the lips and skin. Nowadays the hyaluronic acid gels we use also contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic to temporarily numb the lips during the treatment.

The gels come in a variety of thicknesses and we choose the best one to suit your lips and the outcome you want. We use softer gels to create subtle changes and firmer gels to build and define. Often patients will choose to start with a softer gel to see what it’s like and then if they decide they want to create a fuller look we can safely layer the different gels.

My lips are uneven so what can I do?

No one is perfectly symmetrical but if you have had an accident or were born with a pronounced unevenness that is so noticeable it bothers you, then we can help. Correcting uneven lips and creating a more balanced symmetry is what we do every day.

Does it hurt?

Prior to treatment we use a prescription anaesthetic cream on the area and cold packs. The local anaesthetic in the gel helps to temporarily numb the lips but in some instances we can also use a dental block. I try to avoid the dental block as it can cause the lips to swell and distort the true shape of the lips.

Can I get Kylie Jenner or Angelina Jolie lips?

I hear this often and happily I can report we do a lot of this. In actual fact they are two lip types I am least asked for, but bringing a photo of the lips you love is a good idea. Most celebrities transform their look over time and sometimes it may require more than one treatment to achieve the look you want. We will always be fair and honest with you and take in to consideration your natural shape and the most important thing; what is going to look best on you? We conduct a thorough consultation and explain the process and expected outcomes so you can understand and decide on the treatment being fully informed.

Do men get their lips done?

Yes absolutely. Men are enjoying that they don’t have to put up with things they don’t like either and they have realised that cosmetic enhancement is not a women’s only domain. It is important however to understand the differences in the male aesthetic so as not to feminise features.

What shape and size is best?

It’s all about personal choice and everyone prefers different areas of the lips highlighted or enhanced to give more of a pout, to enhance the cupids bow, define the vermillion borders of the lips, improve the philtrum columns, or give your lips upturned corners.

Lip ratios between the upper and lower lip suit people differently. We take many things in to consideration including age, lip shape and ethnicity. While studies show that most Caucasian women prefer ratios of 1/3 and 2/3 (being the size comparison between the upper and lower lip), different ethnicities or personal preference have different ratios that range from 1/1 and 1/2.

I look at everything including the support of surrounding tissue around the lips (like in the picture below) and then choose exactly where and how much product I will use to create lips you want.

How long does it last?

Hyaluronic Acid is present in our bodies so we naturally metabolise it and it slowly dissolves away. Everyone metabolises at different rates and lifestyle plays a role too so taking that in to consideration and depending on the gel used, results last from 6 months up to 18 months. I recommend patients return between 6 to 12 months to assess their progress and then decide when to top up product to keep their lips looking great. Most patients find they get longer from their product after having it done once or twice too.

Kissable, soft, full and sultry.

I love lips and I love creating beautiful lips that move naturally and enhance someone’s face and smile. Lips are one of the most noticed areas of the face and achieving the lips you want is a journey we take together. XX
